Curricula Based Programming
We have several different curricula that we take to students all around Hattiesburg and the surrounding areas. We engage students in an interactive way to help educate these children on how to live a healthy drug-free lifestyle. Check the list below for the curricula that we promote!
Project Northland’s Slick Tracy
Slick Tracy is the first Project Northland curriculum. With peer leaders, family-friendly comic books, an exciting poster fair, and popular art from the program's urban edition, Slick Tracy activates learning at home, in the classroom, and in the local community.
Project Northland's Amazing Alternatives
The second of the Project Northland curricula, Amazing Alternatives focuses on reducing the social acceptability of alcohol use, encouraging alcohol-free alternatives, and teaching students to identify and resist influences to drink. Complete with activities that involve peer leaders, new parent materials, and an updated audio drama, Amazing Alternatives is an engaging, interactive program that has been proven effective in delaying the onset of alcohol use among young people.
Project Northland's Power Lines
The third of the Project Northland curricula, Power Lines, is intended to empower eighth graders as emerging members of the adult community. Complete with new parent materials, activities in which students share peer leadership roles, a re-enactment of an alcohol-related controversy, and an array of fun community projects, Power Lines gives students opportunities to become positive influences at and away from school, in their peer groups, and with younger students.
Project Northland's Class Action
This high-school component of Project Northland looks at the real-world social and legal consequences of underage alcohol use. Based on the social influences theory of behavior change, the goal of Class Action is to change the social norms around alcohol use and to change negative peer pressure into positive peer pressure. Teens are divided into legal teams to prepare and present hypothetical civil cases in which someone has been harmed as a result of underage drinking.
Project Towards No Drug Abuse (TND)
Project TND is an effective drug abuse prevention program that targets senior high school-age youth. It was developed by Steve Sussman, Ph.D. and staff at the Institute for Health Promotion and Disease Prevention Research, in the Keck School of Medicine at the University of Southern California
Botvin LifeSkills
The Botvin LifeSkills Training High School program is a highly interactive, skills-based program designed to promote positive health and personal development for high school youth. Based on the highly effective LifeSkills Training curriculum, this program helps adolescents navigate the challenges of the high school years and prepares them for the independence and responsibilities that they will encounter as young adults. The LifeSkills Training High School program uses developmentally appropriate, collaborative learning strategies to help students achieve competency in the skills that have been shown to prevent substance use, violence, and other health risk behaviors.
